Solar Electric Buildings

Showcasing the Best Design Solutions for Integrating Solar Power into Buildings

Speaker, Mr. Steven J. Strong

President of Solar Design Associates

Mr. Strong will present the most popular methods for integrating electric glass in buildings, with a review of several current project case studies, including the just-completed Mission to the United Nations in Geneva. Plus, he will explore going "Beyond Green" to truly energy autonomous buildings.  He will also address the increased federal incentives for solar and provide an update from this summer’s 2005 Solar World Congress, touching on current marketplace challenges.

Steven J. Strong Biography

Steven J. Strong founded Solar Design Associates in 1974 after working on the Alaskan pipeline. Drawing on his background in engineering and architecture, he earned the firm an international reputation for the pioneering integration of renewable energy systems - especially solar electricity - with environmentally responsive building design.

He designed the first all-solar electric home, completed the world’s first PV-powered neighborhood, powered the Atlanta Summer Olympics with solar electricity, installed PV at the White House and has just finished powering the United States Mission to the UN in Geneva Switzerland with solar electricity.

Articles about him and his work have appeared in over 50 publications and on television and in energy and environmental documentaries.  In the spring of 1999, TIME magazine named him an ‘Environmental Hero of the Planet.’  CNN recently featured his work in their special on Climate Change.
