Chris Garvin, AIA, LEED AP, Vice-President of Croxton Collaborative Architects, has been working on Sustainability in the Built in the Environment for almost 10 years. Beyond his work at Croxton Collaborative he is also the co-chair of the AIANY Committee on the Environment and a 2005 Environmental Leadership fellow.  He will be presenting several NYC projects by the firm including several commercial interiors and the Mt. Hope Community Center, currently under construction in the Bronx.

 

Lecture will cover:

  • Unique project issues related to sustainability in New York City
  • Addressing natural daylighting within the urban environment
  • Identifying and validating material selections for Green Projects
  • Material resources in New York City

 

Matt Berk is a founding partner of Bettencourt Green Building Supplies.  Previously he was a Wall Street equities and options trader focusing on cyclical industries, including, trucking, rail and logistics, non-ferrous metals, paper and forest products, and chemicals.

 

Lecture will cover:

  • The preponderance of high-tech and innovative green materials come from new or small manufacturers. How to access these materials.
  •  Strategies to cope with longer lead times, small manufacturers, and sourcing of FSC plywood and hardwood.
  • Tips on drawing notes given to contractors to smooth the bidding and procurement process
